Research Group Rules
Vacation Policy
- Each student is entitled to xx weeks of vacation (xx business days) per year (xx: shared within the group — guesses are welcome).
- Students can combine their vacation with any national holidays, provided it does not conflict with classes.
- A two-week advance notice is required for vacation requests.
Seminar Attendance
- All members are expected to attend all group seminars.
- Late arrival incurs a penalty of 1 RMB.
- Absence without prior notice incurs a penalty of 2 RMB.
- Penalties are doubled for speakers.
- Missing labels in figures incur a penalty of 0.5 RMB each — every label counts.
- All penalties are collected in good spirit.
Conference Attendance
- Members are encouraged to take advantage of professional development opportunities, including workshops, seminars, and networking events.
- Each student may attend one international conference during their program.
- PhD students who complete both their master's and PhD in our group may attend two international conferences—one during their master's and one during their PhD—subject to funding availability, of course.
Graduation Requirements
- All students must complete the school's graduation requirements.
- All students must complete a field data application to graduate.
Data Confidentiality
- All field datasets must be kept confidential and must not be shared with any third party.
- Any publication related to field datasets requires prior permission from the dataset provider.
- Data sharing within the group should be conducted through designated platforms to ensure version control and traceability.
- All research data must be stored securely and backed up regularly, following best practices for data management and ensuring data integrity.
- Breaches of confidentiality may lead to disciplinary action, in accordance with group and institutional policies.
Intellectual Property (IP)
- Any intellectual property arising from research conducted within the group must be disclosed to the advisor.
- Members must comply with the institution's IP policies.
Office Relationships
- Workplace relationships are permitted within the group.
- If personal conflicts causes a significant delay in research progress, both parties are encouraged to seek support and resolve the situation constructively. In such cases, an additional collaborative paper is expected for the benefit of both science and personal growth.
Individual Development
- At the beginning of each semester, each student must discuss their research plans for the upcoming term with their advisor and agree on a suitable meeting schedule.
- Discussion of long-term career goals is encouraged, when appropriate, to support individual development and occasionally help make sense of how this semester's work fits into the longer term.
Authorship and Collaboration
- Authorship should clearly reflect individual contributions. Roles and expectations should remain clear and transparent throughout the project.
- Collaborative projects should have clearly defined roles and responsibilities to ensure accountability and efficiency.
Code of Conduct
- All members are expected to maintain a professional and respectful environment.
- Any form of harassment, discrimination, or inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated and may result in disciplinary action.
- All research activities must adhere to the highest standards of ethics and research integrity.
- Plagiarism, data fabrication, and other forms of academic dishonesty are strictly prohibited and will result in disciplinary action.
Mentorship and Accountability
- Senior students are encouraged to mentor junior members, providing guidance on research techniques, academic writing, and career development.
- Peer support groups can be formed to foster collaboration, share knowledge, and discuss research-related issues.
- All members should regularly check and respond to group emails and other official communication channels to stay updated on group activities and announcements.
- Students are expected to engage with research tasks in a timely and responsible manner.
Safety Protocols
- All members must handle lab equipment and resources responsibly and report any damage, malfunction, or safety incident immediately.
- A clean working environment should be maintained. Each student is responsible for their own work area.
